Hello, I'm Betsy
I am an independent midwife, and passionate about physiology and autonomy in the childbirth process. I trust in women’s ability to grow, birth and feed their babies when they are educated, informed and empowered to receive what is their rite of passage.
My qualifications
I am a registered, qualified midwife, regulated by the Nursing and Midwifery Council. I attend regular training updates, including practical training sessions on birth emergencies at home. I am also a member of the Royal College of Nursing and Zest Midwives, which provide indemnity and insurance, meaning I am certified to legally provide care for families as an independent practitioner. I am the Social Media Coordinator and Steering Group member of the Association of Radical Midwives and regularly write for their magazine.

Frequently asked questions
Why hire an independent midwife?
Great question! Midwives are the lead health professionals for healthy women and their babies. Research demonstrates that midwifery led continuity of carer models, where you develop a relationship with a known midwife, have the best outcomes for both women and their babies, (and midwives) including but not limited to: more spontaneous vaginal births, less epidural use, and more positive feelings of satisfaction.
The main difference between hiring an independent midwife and conventional care is the opportunity to build a meaningful relationship which directly translates to safety on all levels. You are able to talk with, learn from and trust in your midwife, and no matter what happens, she will be there with you throughout it all.
Choosing an independent midwife does not guarantee a home birth, since birth is unpredictable, but it places you in the best chance for finding out about and achieving your goals with someone who truly cares and respects you.
Can I only choose an independent midwife if I'm 'low risk'?
